Mark Chervenka is the editor and publisher of Antique & Collectors Reproduction News (ACRN) a monthly newsletter he began in 1992 to expose fakes and reproductions. He has also written several books on the subject including The Black Light Book for Antiques & Collectibles, A Guide To Antique Fakes and Reproductions, and Fake, Forged and Confusing Marks on Antiques and Collectibles. In 2005, ACRN became an online database of information on fakes and reproductions at www.repronews.com.
Mark has contributed over 200 articles on fakes and reproductions to antique periodicals including The Antique Trader, Antique Week, Maine Antique Digest, Country Home Magazine, American Home, and others. He has also presented a weekly segment on fakes and reproductions for the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) weekly television series "Collecting Across America". He also serves on the vetting panel for the Atlantique City antique show, the world's largest indoor antique show.
Mark is often consulted by attorneys, general offices, consumer groups and national media investigating antique and collectible fakes and frauds. He has worked with ABC Prime Time Live, US News and World Report, Wall Street Journal, Reader's Digest and other national media to investigate and expose fakes and reproductions. He is a frequent speaker at trade and association meetings of antique dealers, appraisers, auctioneers and collectors.
Mark has been involved with antiques for 33 years, first as a hobby and then as a career. He left a position in corporate advertising and marketing in 1986 to devote full time to his interest in antiques. College degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications & Advertising and a Master of Arts in Communications Media. Mark lives and works in Des Moines, Iowa.
